Washington, D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will support sound environmental policies, announced today its endorsement of Ben Cardin for reelection to the U.S. Senate for Maryland.

“Senator Cardin consistently defends and advances our bedrock environmental laws and is a champion of clean air and clean water,” said League of Conservation Voters Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “He knows that acting on climate is imperative to protecting both our national security and Maryland’s beautiful coastlines. We are thrilled to endorse him for reelection.”

“Ben Cardin has been a leader in protecting the Chesapeake Bay,” said Maryland League of Conservation Voters Executive Director Karla Raettig. “His efforts not only protected our watersheds, they also helped ensure safe drinking water for millions of people. Marylanders are proud to have Ben Cardin as our senior Senator.”

“I’m proud to receive the endorsement of LCV Action Fund and to partner with LCV as we defend public health and the environment in Maryland and nationwide,” said Senator Ben Cardin. “Working together, we can overcome the damage being inflicted by those who choose to put politics and partisanship before science-based policy,”

Senator Ben Cardin has been a longtime leader on environmental issues. First elected to the Senate in 2006, he is currently a senior member of both the Senate Environment and Public Works and Foreign Relations Committees. Cardin continues to be an advocate for science-based environmental policies and he understands that climate change poses a threat to Maryland and our country. Cardin was a champion of the Clean Power Plan during the Obama Administration and continues to push for clean energy investments. He has been an important leader on clean air and clean water, especially Chesapeake Bay issues, and fought to include provisions to strengthen resiliency, boost green infrastructure, invest in our drinking water and wastewater systems, as well as protect Maryland’s river basins and coastal areas in the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA). He also has been a leader in delivering robust federal funding for public transit, including safe and accessible pedestrian and bike trails. Senator Cardin has earned an impressive 92% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.
