Washington D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect pro-environment candidates, announced its endorsement of Dr. Cameron Webb for election to the U.S. House of Representatives from Virginia’s 5th Congressional District.

“With our country facing the biggest pandemic of our lifetimes and the increasingly devastating impacts of climate change, it is imperative we have elected officials like Dr. Cameron Webb who understands the parallels between these crises and will always prioritize public health,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “We are thrilled to support his campaign because we know he will join a growing cadre of medical and public health professionals in Congress who are making climate and environmental justice a top priority.”

“Dr. Cameron Webb understands the needs facing Virginians today and will fight for the health and safety of our communities,” said Virginia LCV Executive Director Michael Town. “We know Dr. Webb will be an exciting new ally in Congress fighting to build our clean energy future and secure a cleaner environment and more prosperous communities for all.”

“I am incredibly honored to receive the support of the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund, and so excited to work alongside them in the fight to protect our environment and communities,” said Dr. Cameron Webb. “Climate change is an existential threat to our nation and planet, and we need to take immediate, bold action to ensure a liveable planet for future generations. The science is clear and the time is now.”

Dr. Cameron Webb grew up in Spotsylvania, Virginia. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree from University of Virginia, a J.D. from Loyola University Chicago School of Law, and an M.D. from Wake Forest School of Medicine. Soon after, he was tapped by President Obama for aWhite House Fellowship, where he worked on the White House health care team and on President Obama’s My Brother’s Keeper initiative. Dr. Webb has served on several non-profit boards, including Doctors for America. He is currently a practicing physician in Charlottesville, Virginia and serves as the Director of Health Policy and Equity at University of Virginia’s School of Medicine. In the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, Dr. Webb has been treating patients while campaigning.

Dr. Webb is committed to addressing environmental issues, particularly environmental injustice and threats to public health. He has been making the connection between the inequitable concentration of poor air quality due to environmental injustice to heightened COVID-19 related deaths in low-income communities and communities of color. He is also committed to establishing a clean energy standard that requires 100 percent of U.S. electricity from clean and renewable sources.
