Washington D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect pro-environment candidates, announced its endorsement of Charlie Crist for re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives from Florida’s 13th Congressional District.

“Representative Charlie Crist has a long record of action on the climate crisis and protecting public lands, including pushing for clean energy programs and fighting to restore the Everglades,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “He has been an important ally in Congress because he knows that a healthy environment means a strong economy and we are proud to support him for re-election.”

“Representative Charlie Crist has been fighting to protect Florida’s families and environment throughout his career,” said Florida Conservation Voters Deputy Director Jonathan Webber. “His list of accomplishments is long — from fighting for coastal communities to be compensated after the BP oil spill while Governor, to introducing the Prevent Harmful Algae Blooms Act in Congress to deter the economic and health dangers of red tide — we can always count on his strong leadership.”

“Floridians understand why protecting our pristine coastline, bodies of water and thriving green spaces for future generations is so important,” said Representative Charlie Crist. “The threat from climate change is real. We can’t ignore the science a day longer. I’m 110 percent committed to protecting Florida and the environmental treasures that make our state such a unique and beautiful place to live.”

Representative Charlie Crist was first elected to Congress in 2016. He serves on the Science, Space, and Technology Committee’s Subcommittee on Environment. He recently introduced the Prevent Harmful Algal Blooms Act, a bipartisan bill that promotes research, prevention, response, and mitigation to fight outbreaks. He also called on federal agencies to ensure the safe storage of oil and gas surpluses during the COVID-19 pandemic. Representative Crist has had a long career serving the people of Florida as a State Senator, Commissioner of Education, Attorney General, Florida’s 44th Governor, and now as Congressman representing Florida’s 13th Congressional District. As Governor, he led the state purchase of 70,000 acres of land to restore the Everglades and reduce nutrient pollution, fought to ensure BP compensated Florida coastal communities in the wake of their 2010 oil spill, created a solar energy rebate program, called for greater alternative energy usage, and convened Florida’s first climate change summit.
