Washington D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect pro-environment candidates, announced today the endorsements of Chris Van Hollen for reelection to the U.S. Senate from Maryland and David Trone for reelection to the U.S. House of Representatives from Maryland’s 6th Congressional District.

“Senator Chris Van Hollen and Representative David Trone have been strong allies for climate and democracy in Congress,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “LCV Action Fund is proud to support these climate leaders for reelection because we know they will continue to prioritize climate, justice, and jobs and protect our public lands and the health of all communities in Maryland and across the country.”

“Communities in Maryland deserve to have leaders in Congress like Senator Van Hollen and Representative Trone who will prioritize building a clean energy economy, fighting for environmental justice, and protecting our public lands and waters,” said Maryland LCV Executive Director Kim Coble. “We are proud to have them fighting for clean water, healthy air, and a resilient climate for everyone in Maryland.”

“Protecting our environment and addressing the climate emergency is an urgent challenge that requires bold, creative action that can also generate good-paying jobs and lower energy and housing costs for all Americans,” said Senator Chris Van Hollen. “My ‘Polluter’s Pay Climate Fund’ measure will require our biggest polluters to help pay to clean up the mess they created and support our transition to a clean energy future. Working together we can get this done! Thank you to the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund for all they do to support pro-environment candidates and policies across our country.””

“From the mountains of Western Maryland to the shores of the Chesapeake Bay, I know that Maryland’s environment is more than just beauty — it’s a vital part of our economy and our future,” said Rep. David Trone. “In Congress, I’ve championed environmental protection, worked to keep our air and water clean, invest in infrastructure, and build a greener economy that works for everyone. But there’s so much more to be done. That’s why I’m running, and I’m honored to have the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund by my side.”

Senator Van Hollen was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2016 where he sits on the Appropriations Committee. Senator Van Hollen has been a strong supporter of the transformational investments in climate, justice, and jobs. Recently, he introduced legislation requiring the nation’s largest polluters to pay into the Polluters Pay Climate Fund. This fund would be used to finance efforts to combat climate change. He also voted to change the Senate rules to advance critical voting rights legislation. He has earned a 98% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.

Representative David Trone was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2018 and has been a strong ally for climate, justice, jobs, and democracy. He fought for funding for wildlife conservation and outdoor recreation, including for the Chesapeake Bay in the bipartisan infrastructure bill. He was also a leader in the fight for funding for electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. Representative Trone has earned a 97% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.

About LCV Action Fund

The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, the connected federal political action committee (PAC) of the League of Conservation Voters, works to elect leaders who stand up for a clean, healthy environment and to defeat anti-environment candidates who oppose climate action. Since the 1990 election cycle, LCVAF has helped elect and re-elect 95 U.S. Senators and 462 members of the U.S. House of Representatives. Over the last several years, our efforts have also helped elevate climate change and clean energy as critical issues in key elections.
