Washington D.C.- The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect pro-environment candidates, announced today its endorsement of Christy Smith for election to Congress for California’s 25th Congressional District. Smith is also endorsed by California League of Conservation Voters.

“Christy Smith is a leader that Californians can rely on to fight to protect clean air and water and help solve the climate crisis,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “As a state legislator and community leader, Smith has always put the health and safety of her constituents first and foremost. She helped lead the fight for more resources to help combat wildfires and to continue California’s leadership on transitioning to clean energy for all. We are proud to endorse her for Congress because we know that she will be a strong advocate for equitable climate solutions that help our communities and environment.”

“Having faced multiple wildfires just this year, California’s 25th Congressional District is on the frontlines of climate change. It’s critical that we send a leader to Congress from this district who understands the science behind this crisis and who is willing to lead the charge to combat it head on. State Assemblywoman Christy Smith is that candidate,” said California League of Conservation Voters CEO Mary Creasman. “Christy Smith has been a bold force in the state legislature when it comes to ensuring clean air and water, while also prioritizing renewable, clean energy production to protect our environment. We need Christy Smith in Congress and that’s why the California League of Conservation Voters is proud to endorse her.”

“I’m honored and thrilled to have the endorsement of the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund, particularly given my community’s experience on the frontlines of climate change,” said Assemblywoman Christy Smith. “In 2019 alone, the people of California’s 25th Congressional District had to grapple with multiple costly wildfires. Working with climate policy experts and emergency responders on this critical issue in the Assembly gives me an important perspective and drive that I will bring to Washington to tackle the climate crisis. In Congress, I look forward to partnering with the League of Conservation Voters to fight for more investments in clean, renewable energies, reverse the Trump Administration’s dangerous actions on the climate, and work to ensure that California can better mitigate the effects of future natural disasters fueled by extreme weather events.”

Christy Smith is a 39-year resident of Santa Clarita, California, and represents California’s 38th District in the State Assembly. A former policy analyst at the U.S. Department of Education during the Clinton administration, she moved home to raise her family in Santa Clarita, became involved in the PTA and founded an education nonprofit. She served two terms on the Newhall School District Board, including two years as President. In the Assembly, Smith chairs the State Assembly’s Joint Legislative Committee on Emergency Management and serves on the Education Committee; the Jobs, Economic Development, and the Economy Committee; the Privacy and Consumer Protection Committee; as well as the Accountability and Administrative Review Committee. Smith has been a strong supporter of environmental priorities in the Assembly, including using her position on the Emergency Management Committee to find environmentally-sound solutions to manage wildfires. She has also co-sponsored legislation to protect California’s coast and more. In Congress, she will fight for an equitable transition to a clean energy future for all, work to shut down the Aliso Canyon gas facility and ensure protections for clean air and water.
