The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will support common-sense environmental policies, announced today its endorsement of Doug Jones for U.S. Senate from Alabama in the December 12^th special election. Jones is a lifelong Alabamian focused on protecting civil rights and protecting the state’s natural resources that are enjoyed by millions and sustain tens of thousands of jobs.

“Our members have told us their top priorities are clean water and accessible public lands. It’s clear that Doug Jones shares these conservation values and will stand up for them in the U.S. Senate,” said Tammy Herrington, Executive Director of Conservation Alabama. “Jones will represent the best interest of Alabama’s natural resources and the communities that depend on them, including the beautiful Black Belt where hunting and fishing support almost 11,000 jobs.”

Doug Jones will reject divisive rhetoric and advocate for public health initiatives for our communities. In stark contrast, his opponent has a deeply troubling history of ignoring the rule of law, making abhorrent comments, and wholeheartedly supporting an extreme agenda. The choice could not be clearer, and we are thrilled to endorse Doug Jones for U.S. Senate.”

“As an outdoorsman and hunter, I will support policies that conserve the waterways, lands and wildlife that Alabama residents and visitors enjoy 365 days a year for hiking, hunting, fishing, boating and other recreational activities,” Jones said. “Hunting and fishing have an economic impact of $2.7 billion in Alabama and support 30,500 jobs. Being good stewards is good for our state and good for business.”

Jones is highly qualified to serve in the U.S. Senate and has a history of putting the people of Alabama first. As U.S. Attorney, he helped win murder convictions for two former Klansmen involved in the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church Birmingham bombing. Jones will bring that same focus and history of service to the Senate. We need to elect Senators like Jones who believe in science and will work to end voter suppression. Jones will also work across the aisle to advocate for clean energy jobs, and protect public health.

In contrast, Roy Moore is unfit to represent the people of Alabama. Having been effectively removed from his position on the Alabama Supreme Court twice for flagrantly disobeying the law, combined with a disturbing history of offensive comments, Moore has proven he is the wrong choice for Alabamians.

Jones is featured on LCV Action Fund’s GiveGreen website, the only bundling website devoted exclusively to raising money for conservation champions for federal office. Last cycle, LCV Action Fund raised more direct contributions to candidates through GiveGreen than ever before— over $8.3 million.
