Washington D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect pro-environment candidates, announced today the endorsement of Dr. Yadira Caraveo for election to the U.S. House of Representatives from Colorado’s 8th Congressional District.

“As a pediatrician and a legislator, Dr. Yadira Caraveo deeply understands the critical connection between our environment and the health of our communities and has been a great champion for climate, environmental justice, and protecting our democracy in the state legislature,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “LCV Action Fund is proud to support Dr. Caraveo because we know she will continue to fight for the best interests of people, not polluters – she will be an amazing addition to Congress.”

“The road to maintaining our pro-conservation majority runs through the heart of Colorado, and there’s no candidate with more heart than Dr. Yadira Caraveo,” said Kelly Nordini, CEO, Conservation Colorado. “Dr. Caraveo has been a champion for clean air, climate action, and healthy communities throughout her career, and we’re thrilled that LCV Action Fund has endorsed her campaign for Congress.”

“Dr. Caraveo’s unique background as a daughter of immigrants, a physician, and a woman of color will bring an intersectional approach to federal climate policy that we desperately need,” said Protégete Director Beatriz Soto. “Protégete applauds Dr. Caraveo’s consistent advocacy for climate action and environmental justice at the state Capitol and looks forward to working with her in Congress to elevate the needs of Latino communities in Colorado at a federal level. We’re thrilled to support her campaign and ready to work hard to get our campeona elected.”

“I’m honored to receive the endorsement of the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund. As a pediatrician, I see the effects of climate change on the health of our children and families every day,”  said Dr. Yadira Caraveo, Democratic Nominee for Congress in Colorado’s 8th Congressional District. “In the state legislature, I’ve worked to create clean energy jobs, hold corporations accountable to keep our air and water clean and address the disparate impacts of climate change on the working class and communities of color. I look forward to continuing that work in Congress.”

Since entering the Colorado State Legislature in 2018, Dr. Yadira Caraveo has consistently supported climate action, clean energy and environmental protections, earning a perfect 100 percent lifetime score from Conservation Colorado. Even before she was elected, Caraveo was active in climate activism, being named a Champion of Change by President Obama for her work with the Union of Concerned Scientists enlisting doctors across the country to fight climate change. In the legislature, she has sponsored and co-sponsored a number of pieces of legislation related to climate, water, environmental justice and democracy. These measures include creating a state climate action plan to reduce emissions, incorporating the fiscal impacts of climate pollution in legislation, defining “disproportionately impacted communities,” raising fines for environmental justice violations, promoting clean energy innovation, regulating PFAS chemicals, funding for just transition for coal workers, expanding multilingual ballot access, and restoring voting rights for parolees. Conservation Colorado noted that during her freshman year in office, Caraveo was a prime sponsor on one of their signature pieces of legislation – SB 19-181, a bill to reform the oil and gas commission and give local communities more choice in siting of oil and gas operations.
