Washington, D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will support sound environmental policies, announced today its endorsements of Elaine Luria (VA-02) and Abigail Spanberger (VA-07) for Congress.

“LCV Action Fund is thrilled to endorse Elaine Luria and Abigail Spanberger because we know they will be staunch defenders of Virginia’s air, land and waters,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “Their decades of service to our country and national security expertise will be invaluable in Congress as they tackle the threats posed by climate change and pollution.”

“Virginians can trust Elaine Luria and Abigail Spanberger to protect Virginia’s mountains, rivers, and beaches for future generations,” said Virginia League of Conservation Voters Executive Director Michael Town. “Both of these women have dedicated their careers to protecting our country and we would be excited to see them continue their service in Congress.”

“I’m proud to be endorsed by the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund because they share my commitment to protecting the Chesapeake Bay, banning offshore drilling, and investing in renewable energy,” said Elaine Luria. “As a Navy veteran and small business owner, I know firsthand how important it is to our regional economy and our military readiness to prevent offshore drilling off Virginia’s coasts and I look forward to working with LCV Action Fund to ensure our coastal district has a voice in Congress who will be a strong advocate for our environment.”

“It’s a tremendous honor to have earned the endorsement of the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund,” said Abigail Spanberger. “I’ve long admired LCV’s dedication to protecting the environment through public advocacy. Climate change presents an ever-growing threat to our economy, our national security, and our way of life, and we’re long past due for a representative who not only acknowledges this fact but is committed to addressing it. I will be that representative.”

Elaine Luria served in the Navy as a Surface Warfare Officer and nuclear engineer for 20 years, deploying six times and at the peak of her career commanded a unit of 400 sailors. Since retiring from the Navy, Luria has started a small business in Hampton Roads. In Congress, Luria will fight back against the Trump administration’s attempts to bring offshore drilling to Virginia and work to restore the health of the Chesapeake Bay.

Abigail Spanberger grew up in Henrico County, Virginia. She began her career as a federal law enforcement officer with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and went on to join the CIA as an Operations Officer. In 2014, she left the CIA and moved back to Virginia where she has been working to help colleges and universities create diverse student bodies, increase graduation rates, and break down financial barriers to higher education. Spanberger will stand up to attacks against science and be a strong voice for climate action in Congress.
