Washington, D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect pro-environment candidates, announced today its endorsement of Hillary Scholten for election to the U.S. House from Michigan’s 3rd Congressional District.

“As a public interest attorney, Hillary Scholten understands that when policy is good for people, it is good for the environment,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “We are proud to support her because we know she is dedicated to the fight for clean water and green energy jobs in Michigan.”

“As a mom, a public interest lawyer, and a Michigander, protecting our environment is one of the driving forces behind this campaign,” said Hillary Scholten. “Our top priority is protecting our water here in Michigan — from fighting for drinking water that is free from PFAS, lead, and other harmful chemicals, to safeguarding Michigan’s Great Lakes — and I’ll work every day to preserve this vital resource.  I am proud to have the support of the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund to make it happen.”

“With the myriad of challenges to our water, from PFAS contamination to oil pipelines and severe weather caused by climate change, we need leaders in Congress who will make tackling these issues a top priority in DC,” said Lisa Wozniak, Executive Director of the Michigan League of Conservation Voters. “Hillary Scholten is a lifelong Michigander who is dedicated to protecting our air, land and water and will put public health first by holding polluters accountable.”

Hillary Scholten was born and raised in West Michigan. Her family’s ties to Grand Rapids go back to her great-great-grandparents who emigrated to the city from the Netherlands. She earned her degree in social work and then her law degree from the University of Maryland School of Law. Before law school, she was a case worker for the AIDS Action Committee, working with the LGBTQ+ and other impacted communities on public health and housing cases, and at the Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Washington. After law school, she clerked for the immigration unit of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and then the U.S. Department of Justice during the Obama administration.

About LCV Action Fund

The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, the connected federal political action committee (PAC) of the League of Conservation Voters, works to elect leaders who stand up for a clean, healthy environment and to defeat anti-environment candidates who oppose climate action. Since the 1990 election cycle, LCVAF has helped elect and re-elect 90 U.S. Senators and 450 members of the U.S. House of Representatives. Over the last several years, our efforts have also helped elevate climate change and clean energy as critical issues in key elections.
