Washington D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect pro-environment candidates, announced its endorsement of Jamaal Bowman for re-election to the U.S. House representing New York’s 16th District.

“Representative Jamaal Bowman has been a leader in the fight for environmental justice and a safe democracy, and he knows that transitioning to 100 percent clean and renewable energy by 2030 is crucial to boldly and swiftly addressing the climate crisis,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “Representative Bowman has earned an impressive 100% on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard. He supports holding polluters accountable and investing in communities in a way that prioritizes environmental justice and a just energy transition for all, which is why we are proud to endorse him for re-election.”

“Climate change is here, it’s already devastating communities, and every expert agrees that it is only going to get significantly worse. We cannot afford to stand idly by while our planet, our towns, and our communities are ravaged by this crisis,” said Congressman Jamaal Bowman. “That’s why I am so proud to have received the endorsement of LCV Action Fund. They understand the moment we are in and know what it takes to secure a safe future for our children. I look forward to working with them again in my second term.”

About Jamaal Bowman

Representative Jamaal Bowman began his career as a crisis management teacher in a South Bronx elementary school. Since 2009 he has worked as the founding principal of Cornerstone Academy for Social Action (CASA) in the Bronx, one of the top public middle schools in New York. Bowman was a leader in the opt-out movement, a movement against standardized testing that disproportionately harms low-income communities. He is also a steering committee member of the New York State Allies for Public Education (NYSAPE) and a member of the New York State Early Childhood Blue Ribbon Committee. Throughout his career in public education, Bowman has been a champion for early childhood learning standards, trauma-informed teaching practices, and social justice curricula. In Congress, Representative Bowman sits on the House Committee on Education and Labor and the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology. In the latter, he serves as Chair of the Subcommittee on Energy and has earned an impressive 100% score on LCV’s 2021 National Environmental Scorecard.
