Washington D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect pro-environment candidates, announced its endorsement of Nanette Barragán for re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives from California’s 44th Congressional District.

“Representative Nanette Barragán is fiercely committed to addressing the climate crisis with solutions centered on racial justice and equity in California and across the nation,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “We value her leadership in Congress building an equitable clean energy future and working to hold both polluters and the Trump administration accountable for their reliance on dirty fossil fuels. We are proud to endorse her for re-election.”

“Representative Nanette Barragán’s stellar environmental leadership is a continuation of her previous city council service where she was a champion for clean air and effectively fought against expanding offshore drilling along Hermosa Beach,” said Mike Young, California League of Conservation Voters Political & Organizing Director. “Her environmental record speaks for itself, and we need more leaders like her who use an intersectional approach to solving the climate crisis and achieving climate justice.”

“I am honored to receive the support of the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund,” said Representative Nanette Barragán. “Environmental justice has been something I have focused on since before my time on the Hermosa Beach City Council – and I’ve continued that advocacy since coming to Congress. Taking on the climate crisis will require bold solutions that protect our communities and empower all people with good jobs, clean air and water, and create more sustainable and healthier communities.  I am excited to continue our work together to fight for climate and environmental justice in my district and our most disadvantaged communities across the country.”

Representative Nanette Diaz Barragán was elected to Congress in 2016, a year in which she was the only new Democratic Latina elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. She was elected by her peers to serve as the President of the freshman Democrats. She is a co-founder and co-chair of the United for Climate and Environmental Justice Task Force and recently introduced a bill which requires the Administrator of the EPA to maintain and regularly update EJSCREEN, a public environmental justice mapping and screening tool. She also led an effort opposing the diversion of Coronavirus relief funds to the fossil fuel industry. Prior to serving in Congress, Barragán served on the Hermosa Beach City Council where she successfully led efforts to defeat a ballot measure that would have allowed oil drilling in the Santa Monica Bay. In recognition of her work, she received a 2015 Political Leadership Award from the Sierra Club. She also worked to ban plastic bags in Hermosa Beach.
