LCV Action Fund Endorses Norma Torres for Re-Election

Oct 9, 2020

Washington D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect pro-environment candidates, announced its endorsement of Norma Torres for re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives from California’s 35th Congressional District.

“Representative Norma Torres has taken a leading role in responding to California’s historic drought and speaking out about the impacts of climate change on her district and state,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “In Congress, she will continue to be a strong supporter of clean energy and limiting carbon pollution to protect the health and safety of all communities. We are excited to support her for re-election.”

“We’re proud to support Representative Torres’ re-election to Congress,” said Mike Young, Political & Organizing Director for CLCV.  “From her votes to prevent rollbacks to our clean air and water laws to her support for clean energy and ending oil drilling, Representative Torres has been a strong environmental ally working to protect communities from harm and a much-needed voice for combating the climate crisis in DC.”

“I’m thrilled to be endorsed by the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund in my re-election campaign,” said Representative Norma Torres. “Inland Empire residents know we are on the front lines of environmental justice – our air carries pollution from the surrounding region and our ground still holds contaminants from military testing in years past. I fight in Congress to mitigate the impacts on our community, and deliver the federal resources we need to breathe clean air, drink clear water, and build our homes on safe land. LCVAF’s endorsement is a point of pride for me, and a signal to my community that their Congresswoman is committed to a safe and sustainable Inland Empire.”

Representative Norma Torres was first elected to represent California’s 35th Congressional District in 2014. She previously served in the state House and Senate and as City Councilwoman and Mayor of Pomona. In Congress, she serves on the House Appropriations and Rules Committee. She previously served on the  House Natural Resources Subcommittee on Water, Power and Oceans. Representative Torres sponsored a successful amendment to HR 9, the Climate Action Now Act, that would prevent the President from limiting the action state and local governments could take to address climate change. She has earned an impressive 96% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.
