Washington, D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will support sound environmental policies, announced today its endorsement of Senator Chris Murphy for re-election to the U.S. Senate from Connecticut.

“LCV Action Fund is thrilled to endorse Senator Chris Murphy for reelection,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “He is an essential ally in the fight to protect our air, water and public lands and address the climate crisis. We look forward to his continued leadership protecting the environment and public health in Connecticut and across the country.”

“From his days in the General Assembly to his time in Congress, CTLCV has worked alongside Senator Murphy in the fight for our environment,” said Connecticut League of Conservation Voters Executive Director Lori Brown. “Whether it was his leadership in the State Senate to make sure Connecticut has some of the toughest auto emission standards in the country or his strong opposition to Trump’s proposal to allow drilling along the New England coast,  Senator Murphy has never backed down from a fight when our health and environment are on the line,”

“There’s so much at stake right now. The Trump administration is waging a daily attack on our environment, with President Trump pulling out of the Paris Climate Agreement and rolling back strict emissions standards for dirty power plants. I’m proud to receive the endorsement of LCV Action Fund and will continue to work with them and LCV members throughout Connecticut to protect the environment for our kids and grandkids,” said U.S. Senator Chris Murphy.

Chris Murphy has been a champion for climate action and public lands since he was first elected to the Congress in 2006. In the Senate, he lead efforts to fund the Highlands Conservation Act and has been fighting to permanently reauthorize our nation’s best parks program, the Land and Water Conservation Fund. He has also led efforts to protect the Long Island Sound, fighting on the Senate Appropriations Committee to bring back investments to protect and preserve the Sound. Senator Murphy is committed to making the U.S a global leader in the fight to combat climate change and co-authored the only bipartisan climate bill in the Senate, the Super Pollutants Act. He has earned an impressive 96% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.
