Washington D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect pro-environment candidates, announced its endorsement of Sima Ladjevardian for election to the U.S. House of Representatives from Texas’s 2nd Congressional District.

“Sima Ladjevardian is a strong leader who has been an activist and advocate for her community for the past thirty years,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “LCV Action Fund is proud to support Sima Ladjevardian for Congress because we know she will be a champion for all Texans and fight for climate justice, clean energy, and the protection of public lands.”

“In a community that has endured the worst effects of flooding and climate change, I am proud to have the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund standing with me in this fight,” said Sima Ladjevardian. “The health of our climate and the health of our people go hand-in-hand, and we need leaders in Congress who are ready to take this environmental crisis seriously. From investing in clean energy infrastructure to reentering the Paris Climate Accord, we have a chance to safeguard our environment while creating reliable, high-quality jobs for our families. I want Houston to continue leading the way as the nation’s energy capital, and I look forward to being the advocate our community needs in the halls of Congress.”

Sima Ladjevardian is an Iranian-American lawyer, breast cancer survivor, and mother of two. She escaped the political upheaval of the Iranian Revolution and immigrated to the U.S. with her family in the 1970’s. She worked for several years as a community leader and political activist in Houston, founding and leading several community organizations including Big Hearted Texas, The Signal, and Texas Progressive Executive Council. She has been recognized for her contributions to her community by the University of Houston. She served as Senior Advisor and Finance Chair for Beto O’Rourke during his historic 2018 U.S. Senate campaign. In 2019, she joined O’Rourke’s presidential campaign. Ladjevardian is a strong supporter of the transition to a clean energy economy by 2050. Her opponent Dan Crenshaw has an abysmal record on the environment, earning a 10% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard

About LCV Action Fund

The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, the connected federal political action committee (PAC) of the League of Conservation Voters, works to elect leaders who stand up for a clean, healthy environment and to defeat anti-environment candidates who oppose climate action. Since the 1990 election cycle, LCVAF has helped elect and re-elect 90 U.S. Senators and 450 members of the U.S. House of Representatives. Over the last several years, our efforts have also helped elevate climate change and clean energy as critical issues in key elections.
