LCV Action Fund Endorses Tom O’Halleran for Re-Election

Jul 14, 2020

Washington D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect pro-environment candidates, announced its endorsement of Tom O’Halleran for re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives from Arizona’s 1st Congressional District.

“Representative Tom O’Halleran has been a champion for protecting clean water and natural resources for tribal nations and all Arizonans both in and out of the state legislature and Congress, and we are proud to endorse him for re-election,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “He understands the challenges facing Arizona’s outdoor economy, including climate change, and is a strong proponent for investing in clean energy for all.”

“Representative Tom O’Halleran has been an advocate for climate solutions that work for all Arizona communities and a strong supporter and ally to help rural communities transition from fossil fuels to a more sustainable economy,” said Gloria Montaño, Chispa Arizona Deputy Director. “We are excited to see his continued leadership in Congress to protect Arizona communities and our environment.”

“From devastating droughts to raging wildfires, our state has seen the harsh effects of climate change firsthand over the last several decades,” said Representative Tom O’Halleran. “I am proud that two bills I introduced in the House of Representatives were included in the House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis’ Climate Action Plan. My legislation assists sovereign tribal nations transitioning toward clean fuel sources and incentivizes electric companies in rural communities to invest in more renewable energy technologies. This climate crisis plan is the first of many steps we must take to addressing this imminent threat to families across our nation, and especially in the southwest. I am humbled to receive the endorsement of the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund, and look forward to continued work together to protect our planet and our people.”

Representative Tom O’Halleran was elected to serve in Congress in 2016. He is a member of the House Committee on Energy & Commerce and the House Committee on Agriculture. He has been a strong advocate for water access in Arizona. He introduced legislation aimed at relieving drought in Arizona and giving the Hualapai Tribe access to water from the Colorado River. Additionally, O’Halleran signed onto a letter to Congressional leadership urging full and permanent funding of the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF). He previously served in the Arizona State Senate. Representative O’Halleran received an impressive 97% score on LCV’s 2019 National Environmental Scorecard.
