Washington D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect pro-environment candidates, announced its endorsement of Veronica Escobar for re-election to the U.S. House from Texas’ 16th Congressional District. 

“Representative Veronica Escobar is a strong advocate for climate and environmental justice for all Texans, especially Latinx communities on the border,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “We are proud to support her for re-election because we know she will continue to fight hard for the health and safety of all and because she understands the burden that anti-environmental policies create for communities of color.”

Representative Veronica Escobar was elected to represent Texas’ 16th Congressional District in 2018, making history as the first woman elected to this seat and the first of two Latinas from Texas to serve in Congress.  During her first term, Rep. Escobar sponsored H.R. 5625, the Targeting Environmental and Climate Recklessness Act of 2019, which reinforces efforts to limit global average temperature rise and authorizes sanctions on actions that exacerbate climate change. She also sponsored the Department of Defense Climate Resiliency and Readiness Act, which requires the Department of Defense to provide a strategy to achieve net zero pollution from their energy by 2030. Before her election, she served on the governing body for El Paso County, first as a County Commissioner and then as County Judge. There, she fought back against those who used government for their own personal gain and worked with her colleagues to modernize and reform the organization.
