Washington D.C. – Today, the League of Conservation (LCV) Voters Action Fund and New York LCV (NYLCV), which work to elect pro-environment candidates, announced their endorsements of Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for re-election to the U.S. House from New York’s 14th Congressional District.
“Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is a fearless advocate for communities of color in the fight for climate justice and racial justice,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “We are proud to support her for re-election. Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez is a leader who unapologetically calls out systems of oppression and has dramatically changed the public conversation around climate change.”
“Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is a dedicated champion for the environment,” said Julie Tighe, President of the New York League of Conservation Voters. “Her Green New Deal legislation would rapidly accelerate the fight against the climate crisis, including expanding renewable energy, improving energy efficiency, switching to zero-emission forms of transportation, and investing in our infrastructure all while making space for a just transition – many of NYLCV’s top priorities. That’s why we are proud to endorse Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez in her reelection and urge voters in Congressional District 14 to cast their ballot for her on Election Day.”
“Addressing climate change doesn’t just mean we fight for clean and safe air, water and climate — it also means that we repair historic oppression and stop black, brown and low-income communities from bearing the brunt of pollution and environmental degradation,” said Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. “That’s why I am honored to receive the support of both the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund and the New York League of Conservation Voters and look forward to continuing to work together to mobilize our country and government to fight climate change and bring long overdue justice to our communities of color.”
Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has quickly emerged as a leading voice on the national and international stages for bold climate action. She has led on a number of important climate-related bills during her first term in the House, including the Green New Deal resolution, the Climate Equity Act, the Green New Deal for Public Housing Act and the Electric Vehicle (EV) Freedom Act .
