Washington, D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) congratulates Senator-elect Peter Welch and Representative-elect Becca Balint (VT-AL) on their wins in Vermont.

“Becca Balint and Peter Welch prioritized climate change and climate justice throughout their races and this victory is a win for communities in Vermont and environmental justice,” said LCV President Gene Karpinski. “LCV is thrilled to work with Becca Balint and Peter Welch in Congress and we are committed to advocating alongside them to hold big polluters accountable, grow our clean energy economy, and make all our communities healthy and safe.”

On the campaign trail, Peter Welch ran the campaign ad “Standing Up To Big Oil.”

Environmental donors contributed nearly $37,000 to Vermont candidates via GiveGreen. GiveGreen — a partnership between LCV Victory Fund and NRDC Action Votes that helps grassroots donors directly contribute to pro-environment candidates — raised a midterm record $26.9 million for the 2022 cycle.

These are just some of the climate champions who won up and down the ballot in Vermont, demonstrating that leaning into environmental issues is both good policy and good politics.
