Washington, D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) congratulates Senator Mark Kelly, Representatives Ruben Gallego (AZ-03), Greg Stanton (AZ-04) and Raúl Grijalva (AZ-07) on their wins, and eagerly await the remaining results in Arizona. We are optimistic that House candidates Jevin Hodge (AZ-01) and Kirsten Engel (AZ-06) are on the path to victory. 

“Year after year, Arizona communities, especially Indigenous, Latino, communities of color, and communities with low wealth, are disproportionately impacted by the climate crisis and pollution. Senator Mark Kelly’s victory is a win for Arizona communities with his record of prioritizing climate issues and putting people over polluters,” LCV President Gene Karpinski. “LCV is thrilled to work with Senator Kelly and Representatives Gallego, Stanton, and Grijalva to continue to fight for a safe and healthy future in Arizona.”

In Arizona, a state on the frontlines of the climate crisis facing record-breaking extreme heat, drought, and fires, and at the center of attacks on the democratic process, LCV Victory Fund invested $4.4 million to re-elect Sen. Mark Kelly and defeat Dirty Dozen member Blake Masters. The spending included digital ads and mail highlighting Kelly’s support for lowering costs, creating clean energy jobs, and combating the climate crisis through the Inflation Reduction Act as part of the Climate Voters Mobilization program with Climate Power Action. LCVVF also opened 3 field offices, knocked on over 340,000 doors, and had 47,941 conversations with voters in Arizona in support of Sen. Kelly. Additionally, LCVVF supported Somos PAC’s field program to engage Latino voters in the AZ Senate race.

This year Democrats passed the largest climate bill in history. Senator Mark Kelly took the lead alongside other environmental champs to advocate for the inclusion of $4 billion to combat drought in the western U.S. in the Inflation Reduction Act. 

LCV’s GreenRoots member mobilization program turned out LCV members to volunteer for the Kelly, O’Halleran, and Stanton campaigns as part of a nationwide field program to help elect environmental champions that engaged 8,250 total LCV members.  

Environmental donors contributed over $1 million to Arizona candidates via GiveGreen. GiveGreen — a partnership between LCV Victory Fund and NRDC Action Votes that helps grassroots donors directly contribute to pro-environment candidates — raised a midterm record $26.9 million for the 2022 cycle.

In addition, Chispa Arizona, a program of the League of Conservation Voters, ran programs to endorse and help elect climate and democracy champions at the state level, launching one of the largest independent non-federal door knocking programs in Arizona this cycle.

These are just some of the climate champions who won up and down the ballot in Arizona, demonstrating that leaning into environmental issues is both good policy and good politics.
