Washington, D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) congratulates Senator Richard Blumenthal and Representative Jahana Hayes (CT-05) on their wins in Connecticut.

“Today Connecticut voters showed that they want to keep leaders in office like Senator Richard Blumenthal and Congresswoman Jahana Hayes, who have both fought hard for the people of Connecticut to have a healthy and safe environment,” said LCV President Gene Karpinski. “Congratulations to both of these climate champions! We are thrilled to continue working with Senator Blumenthal and Congresswoman Hayes as we grow our clean energy economy and make our democracy more accessible for all.”

LCV Victory Fund named Rep. Jahana Hayes’ opponent George Logan to this year’s Dirty Dozen and invested $540,000 to defeat Logan and re-elect Rep. Hayes in CT-05. The spending included digital ads and mail highlighting Hayes’ support for lowering costs, creating clean energy jobs, and combating the climate crisis through the Inflation Reduction Act as part of the Climate Voters Mobilization program with Climate Power Action. LCVVF also ran TV ads highlighting Logan’s occupation as a utility company executive, his support for tax breaks for big corporations, and his opposition to clean energy policies that would improve energy security.

Environmental donors contributed over $120,000 to Connecticut candidates via GiveGreen. GiveGreen — a partnership between LCV Victory Fund and NRDC Action Votes that helps grassroots donors directly contribute to pro-environment candidates — raised a midterm record $26.9 million for the 2022 cycle.

These are just some of the climate champions who won up and down the ballot in Connecticut, demonstrating that leaning into environmental issues is both good policy and good politics.
