Washington, D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) congratulates Senator Tammy Duckworth, Representatives Sean Casten (IL-06), Bill Foster (IL-11) and Lauren Underwood (IL-14) and House candidates Jonathan Jackson (IL-01), Delia Ramirez (IL-03), Nikki Budzinski (IL-13), and Eric Sorensen (IL-17) on their wins in Illinois.

“Voters across Illinois voted to overcome election deniers and elect fierce environmental justice champions like Senator Duckworth and Representative Underwood who will help lead us towards a clean energy future for all communities, especially communities who have been historically excluded,” said LCV President Gene Karpinski. “LCV looks forward to working with these climate champions to continue to address environmental injustices exacerbated by pollution and the climate crisis.”

LCV Victory Fund supported Sean Casten in the Democratic primary for IL-06 against Marie Newman with a $25,000 digital ad in partnership with NRDC Action Votes. Additionally, LCVVF supported Rep. Lauren Underwood over challenger Scott Gryder in IL-14, spending over $80,000 on digital ads and mail as part of the Climate Voters Mobilization program. Lastly, LCVVF supported Eric Sorensen over his opponent Esther Joy King in IL-17 with a nearly $60,000 spend as part of the joint-mobilization campaign with Priorities USA Action.

Environmental donors contributed nearly $450,000 to Illinois candidates via GiveGreen. GiveGreen — a partnership between LCV Victory Fund and NRDC Action Votes that helps grassroots donors directly contribute to pro-environment candidates — raised a midterm record $26.9 million for the 2022 cycle.

These are just some of the climate champions who won up and down the ballot in Illinois, demonstrating that leaning into environmental issues is both good policy and good politics.
