Washington, D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) congratulates Senator Brian Schatz and Representative-elect Jill Tokuda on their wins in Hawaii.

“Hawaiians are experiencing the devastating impacts of the climate crisis firsthand and that wreaks havoc on both the local ecosystems and communities,” said LCV President Gene Karpinski. “Congratulations to Senator Schatz and Representative-elect Tokuda! LCV is thrilled to work with Hawaii’s climate champions to continue to tackle the climate crisis, address environmental injustices and build a more equitable, just clean energy future.”

Senator Schatz’s climate leadership was central to his re-election campaign. Schatz was integral to getting the Inflation Reduction Act across the finish line this summer, has been a relentless advocate for federal climate action since taking office in 2012, and paved the way at the state level prior to becoming a U.S. Senator.

Environmental donors contributed nearly $45,000 to Hawaii candidates via GiveGreen. GiveGreen — a partnership between LCV Victory Fund and NRDC Action Votes that helps grassroots donors directly contribute to pro-environment candidates — raised a midterm record $26.9 million for the 2022 cycle.

These are just some of the climate champions who won up and down the ballot in Hawaii, demonstrating that leaning into environmental issues is both good policy and good politics.
