Washington, D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters today launched a five-figure ad campaign on Instagram highlighting EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt’s inability to explain the numerous scandals surrounding his sweetheart condo deal with energy industry lobbyists, his abuse of taxpayer money for luxury travel, his lies about giving massive raises to select staff, and other ethical failings. The ads will run nationwide, with an emphasis on Washington, D.C. and Pruitt’s home state of Oklahoma.

The ad uses a clip from Pruitt’s disastrous interview with Fox News’ Ed Henry, in which he refused to answer for the numerous questions surrounding his leadership at the EPA. Pruitt is now facing no less than 11 separate federal investigations and over 100 members of Congress have called on him to resign or be fired. Just yesterday, five members of Congress sent a bombshell letter to the EPA demanding answers to new details revealed by a former staffer who was fired after raising objections to Pruitt’s wasteful spending and unethical behavior.

“Scott Pruitt has sold out our families’ health at every turn and has let polluters run the EPA,” said Sara Chieffo, LCV Vice President for Government Affairs. “People in Oklahoma and across the country should know by now that President Trump’s promise to ‘drain the swamp’ was just empty rhetoric. Pruitt has become the poster child for Washington at its worst – abusing taxpayer dollars for luxury travel, making deals with industry polluters, using government staff to shop for housing, and lying about exploiting a law intended to protect drinking water to give massive raises to favored staff. He is unfit to serve at the helm of the agency charged with protecting our health and our environment. It’s time for him to go.”

LCV is part of the Boot Pruitt campaign, a coalition of 19 environmental and progressive groups working to ensure that people across the country know why Pruitt’s dirty dealings, unethical behavior, and reckless rollbacks of health and environmental protections make him unfit to lead the EPA.

SCRIPT: “In Bed With Polluters”

We knew Scott Pruitt was in bed with industry polluters.

But literally staying at their house? That’s a whole other level.

Ed Henry: Is draining the swamp renting an apartment from the wife of a Washington lobbyist?

Pruitt: I don’t think that that’s even remotely fair to ask that question.

Scott Pruitt isn’t fit to lead the EPA. It’s time for him to go.
