Washington, D.C. — In advance of Donald Trump’s expected ‘speech on the environment,’ the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) released the following statement from Tiernan Sittenfeld, SVP of Government Affairs:

“Donald Trump is the most anti-environmental president in U.S. history. Period. It is beyond absurd that he is giving a speech pretending otherwise.”

“Make no mistake: today’s speech is a made-for-TV moment from our made-for-TV president trying to make up for some bad poll numbers on his environmental record. Instead of worrying about poll numbers, Trump should pay attention to his own EPA’s numbers — like the fact that there were 15 percent more unhealthy air days in the U.S. in the last two years than the four prior.”

“If Trump really wanted to protect our environment and combat the climate crisis, he’d hire experts, not polluter lobbyists who are continuing to pad the profits of polluters from inside government. He’d take pride in the United States’ historic global leadership on climate, not pull us out of the Paris Agreement, strengthen climate and clean energy policies, not gut them, and strengthen limits on harmful pollution, not weaken them and expose our kids to air that is unsafe to breathe and water that is unsafe to drink. And he would support protecting America’s majestic public lands and waters, not oversee the largest reduction in protected public lands in U.S. history or propose to drill off virtually all of America’s beaches.”
