Washington, D.C. — In anticipation of House passage of H.R. 1941, the Coastal and Marine Economies Protection Act, and H.R. 205, the Protecting and Securing Florida’s Coastline Act of 2019, the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) released the following statement from Conservation Program Director Alex Taurel:

“Offshore drilling is bad for coastal communities, marine life, and our climate. These votes are further proof that protecting coastal economies from President Trump’s plans to radically expand offshore drilling is not a partisan issue—it’s common sense. We thank Reps. Cunningham, Rooney, and Castor and Chairman Grijalva for their strong leadership. The question now is: Will Leader McConnell allow votes on these bills or will he continue to operate the Senate as a legislative graveyard and leave states like Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and Maine at risk of offshore drilling?”
