Washington, D.C. — In response to the Department of Transportation’s announcement that its pipeline regulator has advised oil and gas pipeline operators to be prepared to minimize methane emissions, the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) issued the following statement from Deputy Legislative Director Madeleine Foote:

“We’re thrilled to see this important step towards curbing dangerous methane emissions from the Biden administration that is good for workers and our communities. Today we are one step closer to protecting people and the planet from toxic methane — a potent greenhouse gas responsible for about 25 percent of the climate change we are experiencing today. Reducing methane emissions from oil and gas production will go a long way towards dismantling environmental racism and improving public health, especially for those living on the frontlines of drilling operations.”
