Des Moines, IA — LCV Victory Fund launched a new $2 million TV ad today in opposition to Iowa Senator Joni Ernst’s re-election campaign. Ernst was named to LCV Victory Fund’s 2020 Dirty Dozen list of some of the worst environmental candidates last week.
“Map” will run statewide beginning today. The ad is part of LCV Victory Fund’s ongoing effort to flip the U.S. Senate to a pro-environment majority.
“Joni Ernst is a climate change denier who cares more about the corporate polluters who fund her campaign than Iowa’s farmers or small businesses,” said Emily Crerand, LCV Victory Fund National Campaigns Director. “Iowans deserve a Senator who works for them, not someone bought and paid for by Big Oil.”
Senator Joni Ernst has repeatedly denied the reality of human caused climate change, saying that “climate change may just be a natural occurrence” and even voted against acknowledging that human-caused climate change is real. Since she was first elected to the Senate, Ernst has accepted more than $330,000 in campaign contributions from the oil and gas industry and has advocated for them in the Senate. Ernst voted for Trump’s tax plan, which gives Big Oil tax breaks totaling 25 billion dollars. Ernst led Senate Republicans’ efforts to block Obama’s Clean Water Rule that protected drinking water sources for over 117 million Americans. She later praised Trump’s weak replacement rule, which allows the use of more dangerous pesticides and fertilizers that risk running into waterways, polluting our drinking water, and causing cancer and other diseases. Ernst has an abysmal lifetime LCV score of 3%.

Here’s a map of every single working oil well in Iowa
There aren’t any
Here’s Iowa Senator Joni Ernst
She voted to give big oil tax breaks totaling 25 billion dollars
Here’s a fact
Ernst has taken over 300 thousand from the oil and gas industry
Those tax breaks helped big oil
Not Iowa’s farmers or small businesses
And that’s the thing
Joni Ernst doesn’t understand who she works for
