Springfield, Illinois – LCV Victory Fund today unveiled a $291,000 digital ad campaign against Rep. Peter Roskam in Illinois’ 6th congressional district. The ads detail Roskam’s ties to polluters as well as his record of voting against clean air, clean water and public health protections, attacking climate change as “junk science,” and voting with Trump 94 percent of the time.
“When it comes to protecting the health of Illinois families, Peter Roskam has failed time and again,” said Pete Maysmith, LCV Victory Fund Senior Vice President of Campaigns. “From rolling back safeguards for clean air and clean water to turning his back on people with pre-existing conditions, Roskam has sided with corporations at the cost of people’s health. He clearly knows that voters want climate action, but simply joining the Climate Solutions Caucus and continuing to vote anti-climate won’t get anything done. Roskam’s constituents deserve more than a rubber stamp for polluters and Trump.”
Roskam had an abysmal 3 percent environmental voting record on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard in 2017. Despite joining the Climate Solutions Caucus in May, Roskam voted for a an extreme fossil fuel backed climate denial resolution that would block efforts to address the climate crisis. He’s taken nearly $400,000 in campaign contributions from the oil and gas industry.
“Polluter in Chief”
Who can the polluter in chief count on in Washington? Peter Roskam votes with Trump 94% of the time. And he’s taken nearly $400,000 from big polluters.
Roskam’s called climate change “junk science”… voting to allow companies to pump more toxic pollution into our air and water. Even worse, Roskam voted to gut protections for people with pre-existing conditions. Those suffering from pollution-related illnesses like asthma, lung disease and cancer.
Roskam stands with them…Not us.
Big polluters heart Peter Roskam. They’ve poured $400,000 into his campaigns.
And Roskam’s returned the favor. Voting with Trump 94% percent of the time and calling climate change “junk science.” Now Roskam wants to gut the Clean Air and Water Acts—allowing companies to pump toxic pollution into our air and water.
Their corporate profits soar. Roskam takes their money. Meanwhile, our children get asthma, lung disease and cancer.
Peter Roskam’s gotta go.
