Climate science denier Jim Newberger is one of the most anti-environmental candidates running for office this year

Minneapolis, Minnesota – Today, LCV Victory Fund named Minnesota Senate candidate Jim Newberger to its annual Dirty Dozen list. This iconic list has, for more than two decades, targeted candidates who consistently side against the environment.

During an August debate against Senator Amy Klobuchar, Newberger tried to explain his anti-climate science views: “Do I believe it’s man-made? No, I do not. Climate change, the number one factor in climate change is the sun, and we cannot change the way the sun operates.”

“Jim Newberger is a climate science denier who puts polluter special interests ahead of Minnesota families,” said Pete Maysmith, LCV Victory Fund Senior Vice President for Campaigns. “Minnesotans deserve a senator who believes in climate science and will work to combat climate change’s harmful impacts. That’s not Jim Newberger and that’s why LCV Victory Fund is naming him to the Dirty Dozen. Every voter should know that Newberger will not be a champion for Minnesotans’ health, clean air, clean water and clean energy economy.”

Just this past month, Newberger doubled down on his climate science denial. In an interview with CBS Minnesota, he said: “the current thought of man-caused climate change has been scientifically proven and admitted to as being false.” Over 97 percent of climate scientists disagree, according to multiple studies.

In the same CBS interview, Newberger proved that climate science denial leads to bad policy, saying “the U.S. should not rejoin the Paris climate accords.” Just this week, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) published a dire report that painted an alarming picture of the immediate consequences of climate change. Newberger’s climate denial and refusal to act is dangerous and has earned him a spot on this year’s Dirty Dozen.

LCV Action Fund has endorsed Senator Amy Klobuchar for re-election, citing her commitment to advancing Minnesota’s clean energy economy and protecting its natural resources.
