Washington, D.C. – Today, LCV Victory Fund and NRDC Action Votes announced more than $12 million has been raised and contributed for federal and state candidates through GiveGreen so far during the 2021-2022 election cycle. Last cycle, GiveGreen was the biggest single-issue progressive candidate fundraising platform. So far this cycle, GiveGreen has outperformed fundraising numbers from both the 2020 and 2018 elections.

GiveGreen donors are showing up for a midterm election like never before and investing early in key U.S. Senate, U.S. House and gubernatorial races. The $12.1 million raised so far will play a critical role in defending climate and environmental champions and electing new ones.

“After another year of record-breaking climate catastrophes and the growing energy crisis from our dependence on fossil fuels, GiveGreen donors understand that climate is on the ballot in November and the stakes have never been higher,” said LCV Victory Fund President Gene Karpinski. “We applaud GiveGreen donors for building power to help ensure we elect strong climate and environmental justice leaders across the nation, up and down the ballot who will deliver the transformational investments in clean energy, justice, and jobs that we need.”

“Climate activists know we’re in a fight for our future against a deep-pocketed fossil fuel industry, and they’re sending a clear message to candidates who are standing up to oil, gas and coal lobbyists: We’ve got your back,” said Kevin S. Curtis, executive director of NRDC Action Votes

The GiveGreen platform offers donors a strategic vision for supporting candidates who will take real action on climate change, and for making lasting change in our political system. It works to make supporting climate champions as convenient and impactful as possible.

During the 2020 election cycle, donors raised and contributed over $42 million for federal and state races via GiveGreen, making it the largest progressive, issue-based candidate fundraising program. In 2022, 14 seats currently held by pro-environment Senators and 20 seats currently held by anti-environment Senators will be up for election. GiveGreen donors’ support will be critical to our climate champions who were re-elected by narrow margins. Since its inception in 2009, GiveGreen has raised more than $93 million and 72% of candidates supported through the program have won.
