Washington D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect pro-environment candidates, announced today the endorsement of Sydney Kamlager for election to the House of Representatives from California’s 37th Congressional District. Kamlager is also endorsed by California Environmental Voters.

“State Senator Sydney Kamlager has been a champion for environmental justice in the California legislature for her district and communities across the Golden State,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “Senator Kamlager has co-authored countless pieces of legislation that reduced pollution, protected California’s waterways, and drove the state towards a clean energy future. She is a leader in ensuring climate policy is centered in environmental and racial justice and LCV Action Fund is excited to support her campaign so that she can continue to champion climate action, environmental justice and democracy in Congress.”

About Sydney Kamlager

Living in Los Angeles during the 1992 riots after the Rodney King verdict, Sydney Kamlager was motivated to work for Rebuild LA and the Los Angeles Festival. She then worked for the Social and Public Art Resource Center and as public affairs director for the nonprofit childcare organization Crystal Stairs. In 2018, Kamlager was elected to the California legislature  and is the only Black woman state senator in California. During her time in the legislature, Senator Kamlager has been a champion for climate action, environmental justice and democracy, earning a 97 percent lifetime score from California Environmental Voters. She has introduced legislation to center racial justice and equity in California’s climate and environmental policies, including passing a Green New Deal. She co-authored a bill to reduce plastic pollution by 75 percent and another to increase usage of refillable beverage bottle systems and expand urban watershed protections. She is committed to pushing California and the nation towards a clean energy future, co-authoring bills that encourage electric vehicles and expanding a regional air quality control board. She has also championed California’s wildlife, getting the first hunting ban in decades signed into law to protect bobcats from trophy hunting.
