Andy Kim has been a longtime public servant and champion for climate action and clean energy jobs as the U.S. representative of New Jersey’s 3rd Congressional District.
Born and raised in South Jersey, Kim went on to graduate with a political science degree from the University of Chicago. He then became a Rhodes Scholar and Truman Scholar, receiving a master’s and doctorate in international relations from Oxford University. Kim worked for the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, the Africa Bureau at USAID, and served for two years as the director for Iraq on President Obama’s National Security Council. In 2018, he was elected to represent New Jersey’s 3rd District, where he has been outspoken about the national security impacts of the climate crisis and focused on building resilient infrastructure after Superstorm Sandy devastated his district. He also worked hard to ensure the historic Inflation Reduction Act passed with strong climate and clean energy investments.
As a senator, Kim will continue his work to tackle the climate crisis, increase community resilience to extreme weather, and ensure that New Jersey communities benefit from the historic climate, clean energy, and jobs investments he passed in the Inflation Reduction Act. As a representative, he earned a 99% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard. Kim is the first Asian American to represent New Jersey in the Senate.
Kim joins the U.S. Senate to fill the seat of Senator Bob Menendez, who resigned and earned a 96% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.
“One of the most important legacies we can give to our kids, grandkids, and generations to come is a safe and thriving planet. That means we need to take bold steps today to protect our environment, cut pollution, and make our communities more resilient to extreme weather, and protect our planet for our kids and future generations.” – Andy Kim for New Jersey
