Dr. Annie Andrews is a pediatrician and a national children’s health advocate who will work to restore funding to critical health and environmental agencies, limit dangerous pollutants, and protect South Carolina from climate disasters.
After receiving her master’s degree from the Medical University of South Carolina and her M.D. at the University of Cincinnati, Dr. Andrews returned to South Carolina to be a pediatrician. Working for 14 years at a Charleston children’s hospital, Dr. Andrews cared for young patients suffering from measles, heat stroke, cancer, gun violence injuries, and more. Her years of dealing with the failures of the American healthcare system pushed Dr. Andrews into policy, and she became a prolific fundraiser and advocate for youth-focused causes, from climate change to gun violence to childhood poverty. She has spoken out extensively against Secretary of Health Robert F. Kennedy’s harmful anti-science schemes, and fought tirelessly for gender-affirming care and reproductive healthcare rights.
As a senator, Dr. Andrews will continue fighting to protect our youth from harmful pollution and ensure South Carolinians have a safe and brighter future for generations to come. Dr. Andrews is the first woman to be elected to the U.S. Senate from South Carolina.
Dr. Andrews joins the U.S. Senate after defeating former Senator Darline Graham, who was appointed in 2026 to fill the open seat of her brother, the late former Senator Lindsey Graham, who earned a 14% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.
