April McClain Delaney is an experienced civic leader and environmental advocate who understands the extreme threat climate change poses to communities in the United States and across the planet.
McClain Delaney grew up the daughter of an Idaho potato farmer and learned from a young age the importance of hard work and giving back to her community. Delaney graduated with a bachelor’s degree in communications from Northwestern University and later earned a J.D. from Georgetown Law Center. She practiced as a lawyer before founding Common Sense Media, a nonprofit organization that focuses on childrens’ online safety and the impact of media on their well-being. She served in the Department of Commerce during the Biden-Harris administration as the deputy assistant secretary for communications and information, where she worked locally, nationally, and globally to promote digital equity in an effort to address online harassment and abuse.
As a representative, McClain Delaney will work to protect voting rights, advocate for clean water and clean air protections, and champion clean and renewable energy investments.
McClain Delaney joins the U.S. House to fill the seat of former Representative David Trone, who vacated the seat to run for U.S. Senate and earned a 96% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.
“Our failure to address the climate crisis is a reminder that while we have made progress in protecting our lands and wildlife, we still have enormous work yet to do. I will be an unwavering champion for protecting our natural world and advancing large-scale policies to address the climate crisis.” – LCVAF Questionnaire
