Denise Powell is a fierce advocate for Nebraska’s small businesses, public schools, and healthcare who will bring her organizing skills to Congress to lower energy bills and fight for a cleaner economy.
After building a successful career in corporate America while supporting her family, Powell pivoted to uplifting her community through political action. In 2016, Powell created an organization that has empowered hundreds of women across Nebraska to organize, lead community projects, and run for local office. She has led the state’s efforts to invest in public schools and fought back against attempts to restrict reproductive healthcare rights. Powell is deeply familiar with the problems facing working Nebraskans, and has championed protecting families from deteriorating drinking water quality across the state and skyrocketing utility bills.
As a representative, Powell will fight to protect the health of Nebraska’s communities while working to lower working families’ costs with smart investments in renewable energy.
Powell joins the U.S. House to fill the seat of retiring Representative Don Bacon, who earned a 15% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.
