Derek Tran, an attorney, is passionate about addressing the impacts of the climate crisis in Southern California and has worked to address long range transportation and highway planning as a member of the Orange Traffic Committee.
Tran is a workers’ rights lawyer, military veteran, small business owner, mentor for at-risk youth at California’s Sunburst Academy, and member of the board of Consumers of Attorneys of California, which works to protect consumers’ legal rights. He has spent his career defending people in underrepresented communities and holding corporations accountable, and he will continue that work in Congress. He supports stronger environmental regulations and protecting California’s clean air and water, in part by fighting to bring federal funding to southern California to improve transportation infrastructure and create good paying clean energy jobs.
As a representative, Tran will hold oil and gas companies accountable while promoting sustainable energy production that creates good paying jobs.
Tran joins the U.S. House after defeating Representative Michelle Steel, who landed herself on LCV Victory Fund’s 2024 Dirty Dozen and earned a 4% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.
“I am dedicated to protecting our environment, not just for the sake of the planet, but the people who live on it too. Climate change has already begun to affect the lives of many people and we need to take stronger measures to curb its effects.” – LCVAF Questionnaire
