House Representative

Johnny
Garcia

TX-35
D

Johnny Garcia is a deputy sheriff and lifelong San Antonio resident who has built his career around public service, accountability, and second chances.

After attending St. Philip’s Community College, Garcia joined the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office and began his career working in the jail leading the Inmate Worker Program to provide incarcerated individuals with job training and reintegration planning. Garcia was later selected to the SWAT Crisis Negotiation Team, where he acted as a hostage negotiator, before serving as the public information officer. In this role, he has shaped community-oriented law enforcement programs with high levels of transparency and public trust. Through community relationships, he has understood the need for a holistic safety that includes protection from skyrocketing utility bills, increasingly frequent and devastating extreme weather events, and pollutants that contaminate the air we breathe and the water we drink.

As a representative, Garcia will fight to make life safer and more affordable by investing in clean, affordable energy and battery storage to modernize our energy grid and bring down energy costs.

Garcia joins the U.S. House after being elected in Texas’s newly-redrawn 35th Congressional District, a seat formerly held by Representative Greg Casar, who earned a 98% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.

“Here in Texas we have experienced the impacts of all sorts of extreme weather. As a Deputy Sheriff, I know how life-threatening extreme heat, floods, and storms can be and in Congress I’ll find ways to keep people safe and make our communities more resilient.” – LCVAF Questionnaire
