Johnny Olszewski is an experienced Maryland elected official and lifelong resident of Baltimore County who has centered environmental policies throughout his political career.
Olszewski graduated with a bachelor’s in political science and American studies from Goucher College, and a master’s in political management from George Washington University. Before running for office, Olszewski was a civics teacher in Baltimore County public schools for seven years. Olszewski was elected to the Maryland House of Delegates in 2006, where he successfully passed legislation to enhance Maryland’s commitment to recycling and aggressively advocated for renewable energy. In 2018, Olszewski became the youngest person elected to serve as Baltimore County executive. In this role, he has helped make Baltimore County a leader on sustainability, including issuing an order requiring all newly constructed county facilities or major renovations to be completed in the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver standard or higher.
As a representative, Olszewski will protect vital bodies of water like the Chesapeake Bay, advocate for investments in clean energy, and work towards a clean, healthy and sustainable future for all. During his service in the Maryland House of Delegates, he earned an 88% lifetime score on Maryland LCV’s Environmental Scorecard.
Olszewski joins the U.S. House to fill the seat of retiring Representative Dutch Ruppersberger, who earned a 97% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.
