Laura Friedman is a longtime public servant and strong environmental advocate who will continue to fight for safe and healthy communities.
After earning her bachelor’s degree from the University of Rochester, Friedman worked in the film and television industry before serving seven years on the Glendale City Council and as Glendale mayor from 2011 to 2012. She was then elected to represent the 44th District in the California State Assembly in 2016, where she focused on addressing housing affordability and the homelessness crisis, climate change, and protecting vulnerable communities. Her environmental leadership is extensive, having passed legislation addressing wildlife connectivity infrastructure, protecting animal welfare, phasing out single-use plastics, banning the use of forever chemicals (PFAS) in consumer products, and reducing emissions.
As a representative, Friedman will continue to be a champion for communities’ rights to clean air, clean water, and a healthy environment.
“Climate, pollution, and environmental justice issues are my primary motivations for running for Congress. As the mother of a young child, I worry every day about the world that she is inheriting – how our climate crisis will affect her generation and about whether she will even grow up on a habitable planet.” – LCVAF Questionnaire
