Lindsay James is a former chaplain and Iowa state legislator who will bring her commitment to healthy communities and service to Congress.
James earned her bachelor’s degree from Santa Clara University before pursuing her Masters of Divinity from Fuller Theological Seminary. She went on to serve as a minister, interfaith chaplain, and an associate pastor across the country before settling in Iowa. In 2018, James was elected to the Iowa House of Representatives, where she has served since. In the state Legislature, she serves on the Environmental Protection Committee, and has been a vocal advocate for cleaning Iowa’s contaminated air and water. James championed the Iowa Healthy Water Act that restores a fundamental water quality monitoring system and prevents run-off from farms. Additionally, she has regularly called out utility companies for their out-of-date operations that pass enormous costs along to ratepayers.
As a representative, James will continue to prioritize the health of communities around Iowa by cleaning up toxic chemicals and promoting programs to ensure clean air and water for years to come.
James joins the U.S. House after defeating Republican candidate Joe Mitchell, to fill the seat of former Representative Ashley Hinson, who vacated the seat to run for the U.S. Senate and earned a 8% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.
