Lucas Kunce is a military veteran and public servant who made the national security impacts of the climate crisis a cornerstone of his campaign for Senate.
After attending Yale University and earning a law degree from the University of Missouri, Kunce served one tour of active duty in Iraq and two tours in Afghanistan as a U.S. Marine. After his military service, he worked for the Joint Staff of the Pentagon, the Council on Foreign Relations, and the American Economic Liberties Project. Kunce has long been outspoken about how decarbonizing our energy sector and moving away from fossil fuels is a national security issue. He is also an antitrust advocate who is passionate about holding corporate monopolies accountable and bringing power back to workers and small businesses.
As a senator, Kunce will fight to break up corporate polluters and industrial emitters, including Big Oil and Big Agriculture, and create a new generation of clean energy jobs in Missouri and beyond.
Kunce joins the U.S. Senate after defeating Senator Josh Hawley, who earned a 5% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.
“My life’s work is national security. And the case could not be clearer. Decarbonizing will make us safer, allow us to focus on adversaries like Russia and China, and save us money.” – Op-Ed by Lucas Kunce in The American Prospect
