Luke Bronin is a veteran and public servant who has championed environmental and climate leadership during his time as general counsel for Connecticut’s former governor and as mayor of Hartford.

A Rhodes Scholar, Bronin received his master’s degree from Oxford then his J.D. from Yale Law School. He also served as an intelligence officer in the Navy Reserves, assuming a position as a member of the military’s anti-corruption task force during his deployment in Afghanistan. Bronin later worked to protect Americans from predatory lending practices as a senior advisor in the Treasury Department, and was then selected to be general counsel for former Governor Dannel Malloy. There, he collaborated with state agencies, including the Connecticut Green Bank to rapidly expand and deploy clean energy programs across the state. In 2015, Bronin was elected as mayor of Hartford, where he spent two terms prioritizing environmental initiatives including publishing the city’s first Climate Action Plan, creating the Hartford’s Office of Sustainability, and leading city-wide environmental justice initiatives.

As a representative, Bronin will fight the climate crisis by heavily investing in clean energy and battery storage while supporting local communities on adaptation efforts to mitigate extreme weather events.

Bronin joins the U.S. House after defeating Republican candidate Amy Chai to fill the seat formerly held by Representative John Larson, who earned a 94% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.

“The Trump administration is doubling down on dirty and inefficient fossil fuels, data centers threaten to suck up more and more energy, and our planet is on track to hit dangerous tipping points. We need a massive commitment to more affordable, clean energy.” – Luke Bronin for Congress
