Mitchell Berman is a lifelong Wisconsinite and healthcare professional dedicated to fighting for healthy communities and holding polluters accountable for their damages to clean air and drinking water.
After earning his nursing assistant license at age 17 and working his way through college, Berman spent more than 23 years in healthcare and over a decade serving as a registered nurse at the Veterans Administration. He has supported veterans, active duty service members, and military families while serving as a proud union member and advocate. As a frontline emergency room nurse, Berman is familiar with the variety of threats to Wisconsin’s health, including toxic PFAS “forever chemicals” that have contaminated the aquifers in his hometown. Berman is holding polluting industries accountable to clean up these toxins, and prevent similar disasters in the future.
As a representative, Berman will continue to prioritize the health and safety of Wisconsinites by cleaning up toxic air and water contaminants, enforcing strict pollution limits, and holding polluters accountable for the damages caused to community health.
Berman joins the U.S. House after defeating former Representative Bryan Steil, who earned a 10% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.
“Climate change is real, and it is affecting our weather, farming, and ecosystems here in Wisconsin. We need to invest in clean energy, build a more resilient grid, protect Lake Michigan and our drinking water from contamination, clean up PFAS, and make the polluters pay for it.” – Berman for Congress
