Patty Garcia is a lifelong Chicagoan and a longtime political servant who knows the inner workings of Congress and will fight for vital climate, social, and economic justice legislation.
The daughter of immigrants, Garcia was born and raised in Chicago before receiving her undergraduate degree and then her doctorate in education policy from the University of Illinois. She immediately dedicated herself to public service, working on local political campaigns to train volunteers, develop partnerships, and mobilize voters. She went on to join the team of the fourth district’s former Representative Jesús “Chuy” Garcia, where she directed operations in the district office in Chicago before serving as the congressman’s Chief of Staff in D.C. In these roles, Patty Garcia led legislative efforts for an office that prioritized climate and environmental causes and championed the Inflation Reduction Act, the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, and the Environmental Justice for All Act.
As a representative, Garcia will continue to advance climate and environmental justice and fight for bold action that uplifts underserved communities by lowering their costs and creating a cleaner, healthier environment.
Garcia joins the U.S. House after being elected to fill the seat of retiring former Representative Jesús “Chuy” Garcia, who earned a 97% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.
“Growing up in an environmental justice community, I’ve witnessed first-hand the short-and-long term impacts of exposure to pollution and hazardous contaminants. Addressing climate change and protecting people from its impacts is a moral, economic, and public health imperative.” – LCVAF Questionnaire
