Pia Dandiya is an educator, policy professional, and community leader who recognizes the urgent need to protect South Florida’s public lands and coastal communities from the impacts of climate change.
After beginning her career as a middle and high school teacher, at age 28 Dandiya was selected to become the founding principal of a public high school, making her one of the country’s youngest leaders in education. Her school served predominantly low income students, and, under her leadership 100% of students earned admission to college. Dandiya’s efforts led to her selection as a White House Fellow serving the Department of Education to increase all communities’ access to high quality education. After serving across multiple administrations, Dandiya joined Apple to lead the company’s public sector initiatives, working alongside community leaders to develop local healthcare, social work, and education solutions.
As a representative, Dandiya will champion our climate and environment by supporting communities impacted by climate change, investing in carbon-reducing energy and technology, and holding polluters accountable.
Dandiya joins the U.S. House after winning election in Florida’s newly-redrawn open 22nd Congressional District, a seat formerly held by representative Lois Frankel, who earned a 98% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.
“South Florida is ground zero for the climate crisis — but we can also lead the clean-energy economy that lowers costs and creates good jobs.” – LCVAF Questionnaire
