WASHINGTON, DC—The California League of Conservation Voters (CLCV) and the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, announced today its endorsement of Lois Capps for re-election to Congress (CA-24). Congresswoman Capps is a proven environmental champion who works tirelessly to combat climate change, protect California’s coast, and grow our clean energy economy.
“Lois Capps is an environmental leader, who has devoted her career to protecting public health and she continues this work in Congress by fighting tirelessly to safeguard the air we breathe and the water we drink,” said LCV Action Fund President Gene Karpinski. “She advocates for commonsense solutions that help make our planet cleaner and more sustainable, including combating climate change and expanding our clean energy industries.”
“Congresswoman Lois Capps is an outspoken advocate for the people of California, as she works hard to safeguard our environment and our health,” said Sarah Rose, CEO of the CLCV. “She recognizes that California’s coastal ecosystem is a crucial part of our economy and livelihood, which is why she is committed to protecting this precious natural resource.”
“I am deeply honored to receive the endorsement of the California League of Conservation Voters and the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund,” Capps said. “Protecting our environment is critical for our future generations, which is why I will continue to fight for action to combat climate change and continue to work to move our country toward a clean, sustainable energy future.”
A member of the Energy and Commerce Committee, the Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition (SEEC) and the Safe Climate Caucus, Congresswoman Capps advocates to make America a leader in clean energy while tackling the climate crisis head on. She has also led the way in helping communities plan for climate change’s impacts, introducing a bill that would support local resiliency and adaptation projects for our water systems. Congresswoman Capps has also fought to protect public health by championing legislation to better monitor the quality of our air and water, as well bills to improve the safety of our seafood and to preserve our beaches. She consistently opposed and spoken out against the repeated attempts in the U.S. House of Representatives to block the EPA from applying commonsense safeguards to curb harmful carbon pollution and protect public health.
Congresswoman Capps is a co-chair and founding member of the National Marine Sanctuaries Caucus and is devoted to protecting our oceans, coasts and public lands for current and future generations to enjoy. She has introduced legislation to protect precious coastal ecosystems like the Gaviota Coast and Morro Bay and has fought tirelessly against expanding drilling off of California’s coast.
Her voting record has earned Congresswoman Capps an impressive 96% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard. The non-partisan Scorecard is a nationally accepted yardstick used to rate members of Congress on environmental and clean energy issues. Based on key environmental votes in the House and Senate, it is often used by the media to quickly describe a Member’s record. For more information, visit https://scorecard.lcv.org.
