Oct 31, 2014

WASHINGTON, DC—The California League of Conservation Voters (CLCV) and the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, announced today its endorsement of Mark DeSaulnier for Congress (CA-11). In the U.S. House of Representatives, Mark DeSaulnier will work hard to fight climate change, protect public health, and preserve our environment.

“Mark DeSaulnier has been a proven leader on combating climate change throughout his eight years in the California State Legislature and will be able to build on this impressive work in Congress,” said LCV Action Fund President Gene Karpinski. “His support of the EPA’s clean power plan and readiness to tackle the climate crisis will benefit Californians and Americans alike.”

“Again and again, Mark DeSaulnier has found practical solutions that enhance California’s natural landscapes and resources, making our environment clean and sustainable for future generations,” said Sarah Rose, CEO of the CLCV. “With his long history of public service at the local and state level in California, we can count on Mark DeSaulnier to make decisions in Congress that will protect California’s communities from the threats of climate change.”

“It’s really gratifying to be recognized for an issue I’m so passionate about,” said California State Senator DeSaulnier. “The League of Conservation Voters is on the forefront of our national battle to protect our environment and to advance smart, forward-thinking policies that move our nation off fossil fuels and towards an economy based off of clean energy. I am thankful for their support and look forward to partnering with them in Washington.”

As a former Assemblyman and current Senator in the California State Legislature, Mark DeSaulnier has showed a thoughtful commitment to combating climate change and protecting the environment and public health. DeSaulnier’s voting record has earned him a 100% on CLCV’s 2014 Scorecard and a 97% lifetime score. He sponsored legislation that would help California achieve its emissions goals by setting specific targets to retire and replace high-polluting cars and pickup trucks.  Additionally, for the July 2007 Live Earth concert, DeSaulnier delivered the Democratic weekly radio address where he discussed ways for individuals to reduce their carbon footprints. He also supports the EPA’s Clean Power Plan, which will limit harmful carbon pollution and protect public health.
