Washington D.C.– In response to the EPA kickstarting a rulemaking process likely to further restrict which waterways are protected by the Clean Water Act, the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) released the following statement from Healthy Communities Program Director Madeleine Foote:
“Trump’s EPA is once again putting the profits of Big Polluters over the health and safety of our communities and environment. Through this rulemaking process, and in line with the Project 2025 agenda, EPA now is attempting to further gut our nation’s clean water safeguards. This attack comes on top of the 2023 Supreme Court ruling that severely undermined the Clean Water Act. Combine this announcement with EPA Administrator Zeldin’s pledge to cut 65% of EPA’s budget and staff, along with Elon Musk’s cruel and disingenuous DOGE efforts to decimate our federal agencies and workforce, and we’re left with few protections for the vital wetlands and waters that protect us from flooding and provide clean drinking water for millions of people across the country.”
