WASHINGTON, DC – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund announced today that more than $3 million has already been raised or contributed for Federal and State candidates through the GiveGreen program this election cycle. With election day still nearly six months away, this already represents the most money ever collected through GiveGreen during a single election cycle.
“We have raised more money, and faster, than ever before,” said LCV Action Fund President Gene Karpinski. “It speaks to the energy out there for supporting true environmental champions and the strong need to defend them in 2014.”
Last month, LCV Action Fund announced the expansion of the existing GiveGreen program and a goal of raising $5 million this cycle with support from NRDC Action Fund PAC as part of a broader strategic alliance between LCV and NRDC Action Fund.
“Several of our biggest allies in Congress are being met with well-financed attacks from polluting special interests and we aim to get them the help they need to fight back,” said Frances Beinecke, President of NRDC Action Fund PAC.
During the 2010 election cycle, the GiveGreen program raised or contributed $1.3 million for environmental candidates. In the 2012 cycle, GiveGreen doubled that number with over $2 million raised or contributed to environmental champions by election day. This cycle GiveGreen has already surpassed the total 2012 figure before Memorial Day.
The full fundraising breakdown by candidate can be accessed online at givegreen.com, which is the only website devoted exclusively to raising money for environmental champions and candidates.
The GiveGreen total includes all contributions raised or contributed by LCV Action Fund in 2013-2014 for federal candidates, as well as contributions raised or contributed by state LCV partners (i.e. Virginia, Maine and South Carolina) through their GiveGreen nonfederal programs.
