#Greenstorm Makes Landfall

Sep 18, 2014

WASHINGTON, D.C.– With just 47 days until the November midterms, the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund and the NRDC Action Fund PAC along with our allies raised over $360,000 in an effort featuring four U.S. Senate candidates: Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Senator Mark Udall (D-CO), Congressman Bruce Braley (D-IA), and Congressman Gary Peters (D-MI). This was a part of yesterday’s #GreenStorm campaign, the first ever environmental effort to bring a wide range of supporters together to raise a consequential amount of money in a single day.

Through “#GreenStorm,” we raised over $360,000 from over 1400 people who contributed to our effort featuring four candidates in close races. These four candidates have a proven record of being environmental champions who are willing to take on dirty polluters in order to make progress on climate change and protect the air we breathe and the water we drink. During the event, Mark Udall became the first candidate that we have ever raised $300,000 for on GiveGreen.

Thirteen senators and one governor assisted with #Greenstorm by writing emails that highlighted that climate disruption is here and it’s time to make tackling climate change a priority. For example:

Senator Jon Tester (D-MT) wrote, “…we’ve seen first-hand the effects of climate change. It‘s changed the way we operate the farm. It’s more difficult to know when to plant to take advantage of rains. Milder winters have the sawflies out early to destroy crops.”

Senator Harry Reid (D-NV) wrote, “Climate change is a storm that is pounding America, negatively impacting our economy as well as people’s lives. Today, we’re going to fight it with a GreenStorm of our own.”

“With just 47 days until the November elections, our environmental champions need us now,” said Frances Beinecke, President of the NRDC Action Fund PAC. “#GreenStorm took us one step closer to washing away the influence of polluters in politics by supporting candidates who will work in Congress to protect our air and water. People from all over the country donated yesterday because these candidates support confronting the problems of climate change head on.

“Yesterday, we met extreme weather with a storm of our own,#GreenStorm, — and it was a huge success,” said LCV Action Fund President Gene Karpinski. “It was especially great to see so many Senators raising money for our environmental allies and talking about the need to combat the challenge of our generation, climate change.”

All #GreenStorm donations were raised through GiveGreen, which is run by the LCV Action Fund. To donate please visit: www.givegreen.com
